Jan Aushadhi Diwas is celebrated annually on March 7th by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, to promote affordable, high-quality generic medicines. The first Jan Aushadi Diwas was organised in 2019. Jan Aushadi Diwas 2026 The 2026 celebration features a week-long "Janaushadhi Saptah" (March 1st–7th) with health check-up camps nationwide to raise awareness. Janaushadhi Saptah 2026, an outreach initiative aimed at creating awareness about affordable and quality generic medicines, commenced on 1st March with health check-up camps across the country. The week-long celebrations will culminate in the observance of the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas on 7th March. In addition to providing on-site diagnostic services, the camps are engaging the general public on the availability of affordable and quality generic medicines at Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJAKs) established under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). The camps are offering a comprehensive range of services, including general health check-ups, free blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, and thyroid tests. Doctor consultations cover general medicine, infections, chronic conditions, paediatric care, and specialist services such as nephrology and diabetology at several locations. Free distribution of Janaushadhi medicines is being carried out extensively. Additional services such as physiotherapy consultations, eye check-ups, and child health initiatives are also being organised at select centres. Jan Aushadi Kendras Under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), more than 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) are operational across the country. The Government has set an ambitious target of expanding this network to 25,000 Kendras by 31st March 2027, further strengthening last-mile access to affordable and quality medicines.
